Michael Loren Mauldin from Carnegie Mellon University developed one of Lycos’s oldest search engines. The name of the search engine is derived from Lycosidae, a Latin name for a family of wolf spiders.
The company logo bears the image of a dog beside the name ‘Lycos’ as a trademark logo. In the 1990s, a television advertisement featured a black dog, commonly referred to as Lycos Dog. The dog demonstrated the fastness, simplicity, and effectiveness of the search engine.
