Tichy mounted his photos in his own handmade frames and embellished many of them with pen and pencil markings. Tichy was frequently arrested for hanging around the local pool and snapping pictures of unsuspecting women.
Living in near isolation in his hometown of Kyjov, Tichý conceived a world populated by images of the local women, taking thousands of photographs from the 1960s through the late 1980s.
According to Roman Buxbaum, in the 1960s Tichý mostly made drawings and began to photograph. His central theme was women, photographed in limitless forms. At the same time, he began to lose interest in standard social norms and found himself on the edges of society.
