Baboons inhabit woodlands, semi-deserts and sub alpine meadows along the Drakensberg. They spend most of their time on the ground. The only time they go into trees is to escape predators, get food, or spend the night.

In the Cape Peninsula, South Africa, the problems for baboons began in earnest when people started sedentary living and usurped all the productive low lying lands for growing crops and building houses. Baboons were left with the mountains where exposure to the elements is high, and plant productivity is low.
The only sustainable and humane solution is to manage humans, not baboons. With a little planning and patience, Baboon Matters believes it is possible to minimise conflict by reducing easy access to human-derived food.
