29. März 2024 · The Swiss Primary Hypersomnolence and Narcolepsy Cohort Study (SPHYNCS) is a multicenter research initiative to identify new biomarkers in central disorders of hypersomnolence (CDH). Whereas narcolepsy type 1 (NT1) is well characterized, other CDH disorders lack precise biomarkers.
Dr. med. Elena Wenz is a resident at the Department for Neurology, Inselspital, Bern, part of the sleep research group at the Sleep-Wake-Epilepsy-Center, and PhD student at the Graduate School for Health Sciences at the University of Bern, Switzerland. Contact: elena.wenz@insel.ch.
His research interests include sleep, stroke, and movement disorders with a translational (human and animal) approach. He served as president of the European Neurological Society (ENS, 2013-4), European Sleep Research Society (ESRS, 2008-12) and Swiss Neurological Society (SNG, 2008-12).

Apr. 2021 · Seven Swiss sleep centres, belonging to the Swiss Narcolepsy Network (SNaNe), joined the study and will prospectively enrol over 500 patients with recent onset of excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS), hypersomnia or a suspected central disorder of hypersomnolence (CDH) during a 3‐year recruitment phase.

We report the association of periodic hypersomnia with a polymorphism of the LMOD3-gene in a patient with atypical KLS and a positive family history. Further research is needed to assess the pathological and predictive value of LMOD3 variants in KLS.
30. Okt. 2023 · Patients/methods: We reviewed the literature and report three patients from three European sleep centers who were diagnosed with both SC and NT1 within a few months. Results: We describe the cases of one male (age 10) and two female (age 22 and 10) patients.
