Woman Receiving a Letter 1663-65 Oil on canvas, 60 x 72 cm Private collection: Luxury and sophistication abound in this painting. A liveried messenger has entered the vestibule of an elegant home and is received by the mistress. The messenger's large hound and the lady's dainty spaniel cleverly echo the interactions of the principal protagonists.
Ludolf de Jongh or Ludolf Leendertsz. de Jongh (Overschie, 1616 – Hillegersberg, 1679) was a Dutch painter, known for his genre scenes, hunting scenes, history paintings, landscapes, cityscapes and portraits.

Sir Peter Lely (Pieter van der Faes) Dutch, British. On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 509. Lely was the preeminent English court portraitist in the second half of the seventeenth century, filling the vacancy left by Van Dyck’s early death.
