Developed with the aim of facilitating early detection of ASD, the ASSQ provides a practical and efficient means for educators, healthcare providers, and parents to evaluate individuals who may exhibit characteristics of autism spectrum conditions.
The ASSQ is a screening questionnaire for autism designed by Ehlers and Gillberg and further developed in collaboration with Lorna Wing in order to study prevalence of Asperger’s syndrome. It has since then become one of the most widely used autism screening tools in the world.
ASSQ scoring and interpretation: Sum up the total (No = 0; Somewhat = 1; Yes = 2) Use the table below (from Ehlers et al., 1999) to establish cutoff based on desired sensitivity vs. specificity.
