We would like to stay in a town with public transportation/train access to do day trips as well as check out some pubs and historical sites/things to do.

This is in Aug last weekend of month. Wish we could stay overnight but won’t work out. I see Paddywagon tours has a quick trip that includes Giants causeway and a Black cab tour.
